Pediatric patients are any patient less than 18 years of age. We do have special procedures and considerations for our younger patients, and their caregivers, in order to increase comfort and decrease anxiety on the day of the procedure. Please read the Surgical Patient Information to become familiar with the usual patient experience.

When we are caring for a pediatric patient, we require a parent or guardian to stay in the building the entire time the patient is in our care. For young patients, we will allow one person to accompany the child into the actual operating room and remain with the child until they fall asleep. We also encourage younger children to bring a special blanket or stuffed animal with them. Children may wear their pajamas or anything that will make them feel comfortable.

We know you will not leave your younger child alone, but older children and teens must have someone stay with them for 24 hours following surgery as well.
We do allow the parents or caregivers of younger children into the Recovery Room. We will come to the waiting room for you as soon as we are able.

Do not hesitate to contact us in advance of your child’s procedure if there is anything we can do to make you or your child comfortable with us. We would be glad to meet with you and your child in advance if you would like to tour our facility and have your questions answered in person.
